This is a book cover design for Don Delillo's White Noise.
Death is an important theme in the book, each of the characters reacting differently to it. The black, blob-like substance in my image is meant to represent death. The boy on the tricycle is oblivious to it (as many of the characters are). He is focused on what appears to be a simple beautiful sunset, but was caused by the toxic explosion that happened in the book. Covering the gooey embodiment of death is a white pattern to emulate the suggested "white noise". Each symbol in the pattern is representative of an event, substance, theme, or quality in the book, all contributing to the chaos or white noise surrounding the characters, which some characters believe IS death.
